In 1879, Jacques and Maurice Braunstein founded the Zig Zag company, though the actual production plant wasn’t built in Paris until 1882. Their specialized zig zag wraps were invented in 1894, as a way to make stronger rolling papers by interweaving the materials together. Zig Zag wraps were owned by the Braunstein brothers until the 1950s, when Jacques passed away and it was then sold to a competitor. In 2000, it became part of the Republic Technologies.
While the brand originated in Paris and is still made in Europe by Republic Technologies, these wraps are also made in Japan and the USA, under National Tobacco.
Benefits of Wrapping Your Own
While most people prefer to purchase their cigars and cigarillos already rolled and ready to smoke, many have found great benefits by rolling their own with Zig Zag wraps. One of the main reasons to roll your own cigars is that you can save a lot of money. Rolled cigars can cost a lot of money, but by purchasing your own tobacco and rolling papers, you can ultimately create the same name-brand cigars without the name-brand cost.
Another great benefit of rolling your own cigars is that you control the type and amount of tobacco inside them. You can select slow-burning wraps and blend your own tobaccos together to create the perfect smoke. Everyone has their own blend preference, even if they aren’t sure what that is. Each specific brand of cigar offers its own blend, which can be easy to find online so that you can mimic these options and have an inexpensive brand-like smoke.
Flavors and Products from Zig Zag Wraps
While most people think of wraps when they think of Zig Zag, they also create cigarette papers, tobacco, filtered cigarette tubes, cigarette machines and cigarillos. Because of their wide range of products, Zig Zag is a company that is still going strong and is considered very popular amongst aficionado smokers and occasional smokers.
While there are always the normal and menthol versions of cigarettes and tubes, you also have a variety of flavors from which to select, giving you a unique smoking experience. Typical flavors include apple, blue juju, cherry, mango, melon, orange, peach, strawberry, vanilla and grape. You may also want to consider the slow burning options in orange and original so that you can take as long as you want to puff on your cigar or cigarillo.
